This is part of a series I'm working on. Tomorrows post will show the second of a planned diptych or triptych. This, though, is a stand alone. It really was that red one fall here!

This is panel two of my diptych or triptych. May still need some tweaking. This is the first time I've tried a series to be hung together. Painting is a lifelong learning process! I think it's best to do a dip or trip all together at the same time so the colors and application stay very uniform. ( one would need a larger studio for this, however!) 20 x 24 Oil on Stretched canvas$ 200 (or $Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240952748381698281.post-8504185095413591242012-05-07T13:41:00.002-07:002012-05-07T13:41:58.407-07:00AWESOME OIL PAINTINGS BY ROB HEFFERANUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240952748381698281.post-74886780443027203872012-05-07T13:41:00.001-07:002012-05-07T13:41:41.614-07:00Trek Through Snow Country

Banksy is a quasi-anonymous English graffiti artist, who works under the cover of darkness and tries to send a message through his work. His artworks are often satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stenciling technique.

People think painting is relaxing. It is not remotely relaxing. It's fun, exciting, even "meditative" when you're in the so called "zone"; but it is never, ever relaxing. This little piece stressed me out just considering where to start in order to pull it off and make it read. This is an experiment where I've toned the canvas in multicolor acrylic, with hues complementary ( or opposite on the color wheel) to the planned finish. Usually, I just tone the canvas burnt orange in oil or acrylic, or start with just white canvas. This is a tricky painting for me; we'll see how it turns out. I'll put myself out on the line and post the finish, or near finish, good or bad. I love doing these quick and lively little studies that are challenging in the simplicity of their design. I'm pretty sure this one will find a happy home; after a while you get a feel for what might appeal and what probably will need to be recycled. 5 x 7 Oil on panel$55Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240952748381698281.post-29791390689778747172012-05-07T13:39:00.000-07:002012-05-07T13:39:06.445-07:00
This is the next step of the underpainting shown on yesterdays post. I may work more on this or not. I'll observe it for a day or two. If I add more, I could ruin the whole thing. It's a risk probably worth taking in order to keep learning.

This kind of scene always invokes a peace and quiet and restfulness. I love the surreal quality of fresh and heavy -fallen snow blanketing the earth, smoothing out all rough edges, bringing a sense of safety and contentment. I've learned from experience these moments are best expended in front of a nice, warm fire with a good book and coffee, and soup wafting from the kitchen.....lest my senseUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240952748381698281.post-27629034222948605512012-05-07T13:37:00.000-07:002012-05-07T13:37:24.464-07:00Amazing Chinese Paintings ArtUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240952748381698281.post-7881300485913445732012-05-07T13:36:00.003-07:002012-05-07T13:36:56.472-07:00Color studies

This was painted on Wallis paper mounted to Gatorboard for a sturdy support. It's amazing how many layers of pastel this paper can hold. I had washed out a previous painting I wasn't crazy about and thought I'd have little "tooth" left but was pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise.

Although exhausted from painting for 6 hours Sat and Sunday in a workshop, I was so motivated to try out some new found skills that I painted this colorful little 6 x 8 last night despite very poor studio lighting. So glad I stopped and walked along the Santa Fe shooting photos despite freezing cold temperatures and exhaustion. I was on my way home from a long weekend workshop-but the lighting as I drove by was just too spectacular to to pass up, as I was tempted to do.
